PortAventura Business & Events has been selected as the venue for the next International Camping Congress (ICC), which will be held for the first time in Spain between 4 and 8 October 2023, with the aim of sharing camp experiences, discovering new trends, and presenting the culture and the way that free time activities are organised in the host country.

The international event, which brings together leisure education professionals from all over the world every 3 years, arrives in Spain after holding previous editions in Canada, the United States, Australia, Russia, Mexico, Hong Kong, and Turkey. The confirmation of PortAventura Convention Centre as the venue for the congress was made official with the signing of the agreement by Fernando Aldecoa, general director of PortAventura World, and Laura Valdeolivas, director of PortAventura Business & Events/Convention Centre, together with Carolina Fleix Wright, on behalf of the International Camping Fellowship (ICF).

Founded in 1987, ICF is a worldwide association of camping professionals who share their enthusiasm, knowledge, and commitment to the leisure experience. Carolina Fleix, co-owner of the family business English Summer SA in Tarragona, which has been organising summer camps for more than 40 years, is the ICF ambassador in Spain and she is now also part of the organising committee for the congress, having submitted the country’s candidacy for the 2023 event.

The director of PortAventura Business & Events/ Convention Centre, Laura Valdeolivas, said “We are delighted to have been chosen as the venue for this international congress in 2023. The fact that we are able to offer both infrastructure for meetings and accommodation for the participants, together with the cultural and leisure interests of the area, have been key factors in the decision of the organising committee and we are sure that it will be a great success”.

The next steps for the development of the congress will be meetings with national associations and public bodies to receive the support and collaboration required to hold an event of this magnitude, which is expected to be a great success with the participation of more than 120 countries.
