The King at PortAventura Convention Centre
H.M. King Felipe VI of Spain was present at the closing luncheon attended by European Olympic Committees (EOC) Executive Committee members, who have held meetings for two days at PortAventura World’s Convention Centre. Arturo Mas-Sardá, president of PortAventura World, was entrusted with the task of welcoming the monarch and representatives of the Olympic Committees.
The King’s visit to Tarragona also coincided with the official presentation of “Tarracus”, mascot for the 2017 Mediterranean Games. The party then moved on to the PortAventura Convention Centre for the second part of the day.
During lunch His Majesty highlighted the role played by the 2017 Mediterranean Games as “ideal for promoting effective cooperation, development and integration within the Mediterranean areas. This is an initiative that our country supports with strong conviction and faith”. His Majesty the King concluded by reiterating “the commitment of Tarragona, Catalonia and the entire country to the 2017 Mediterranean Games. They will be an opportunity to highlight the need to promote ̶through education and the best Olympic values —peace and dialogue in a region that, once again in history, should be a meeting point for solidarity among regions, countries and especially among people of all cultures”.
